A major solo exhibition, A Nomadic life - Francesco Clemente in China is currently on view at the Springs Center of Art in Beijing. It features paintings, watercolours, sculptures and installations which both reflect Francesco Clemente’s nomadic spirit and explore the cultural heritage of two ancient civilisations - India and China.
At the centre of the exhibition is The Tide of the Ocean of Stories, a monumental mural spanning 28 metres which took the artist a month to paint. Its title is drawn from the famous 11th-century collection of Indian legends, fairy tales and folk tales as retold in Sanskrit by Hindu poet Somadeva. A separate exhibit includes photographs, books and collaborations with poets from Clemente’s personal collection, as well as monographs and documentaries on his work.
A Nomadic life – Francesco Clemente in China is at the Springs Center of Art in Beijing until 31 October.
