“I make paintings that people perceive often as being very social or political, but for the most part they're all very personal.”

Congratulations to 2018 MacArthur Fellow Titus Kaphar MFA '06! The Yale School of Art alumnus creates artwork highlighting the lack of representation of people of color in the canon of Western art.
Kaphar's commitment to social engagement includes founding NXTHVN, an art space in New Haven slated to open in early 2019. The MacArthur Foundation video spotlights paintings currently on view at Yale University Art Gallery, which is always free and open to the public.
