This painting carries a deeply personal weight for Kate. The black dog at the edge of the pool is based on her own puppy, Jackson Pollock, who tragically passed away while she was away—struck on the road.

In the painting, he is immortalized, his form transcending that of a dog. He becomes something both beautiful and monstrous, a shadowy presence hovering at the water’s edge. His pure black silhouette contrasts with the scene, evoking something mythical—part guardian, part ghost. There is an unease to his presence, a sense of something lingering just beyond reach, as though he exists between worlds, caught in the liminal space that often defines Kate’s work.
