Since the late 1960s, the late American artist Ron Gorchov had explored the possibilities of painting as an object rather than a two dimensional representation. By rejecting the rectangular format of the conventional canvas to explore different surfaces, he advocated biomorphic forms, combining linear shapes with volumetric shapes of different colors on convex or concave surfaces. Gorchov’s paintings are included in renowned collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, MoMA, and the Whitney Museum in New York.
