Omar Victor Diop (b. 1980 in Dakar, Senegal) is known for his theatrical, fashion-forward portrait photography inspired by Afro-Caribbean literature. He graduated from the Ecole Supérieure de Commerce de Paris, after which he worked in the commercial sector before focusing entirely on his art. Victor Diop is distinguished for his interest in a wide variety of cultural influences, while touching on themes surrounding identity, representation, diversity, and lifestyle of various African modern societies. He communicates these ideas by blending together fashion, textile design, and writing which come together in his dramatically staged photographs. His work can be found in prestigious collections worldwide including Brooklyn Museum, New York, Minneapolis Institute of Art, MN, High Museum of Art, Atlanta, Louis Vuitton Foundation , Paris, France, Musée de la Photographie de Saint-Louis, Sénégal, and many more.
