In the center of a rectangular mirror canvas, composed of mirror foil mounted on a frame, a circular area was cut out by the artist. Instead of their mirror image, viewers in return look at the blank wall behind the artwork, thus questioning the view of oneself and one’s own self-reflection. Alluding to Lucio Fontana’s slash series, Jeppe Hein’s mirror cuts broaden the perception of an image by affording a view into the depth of the canvas, transforming the flat surface into a three-dimensional sculpture.
