With this work, Samuel de Saboia explores the balance between contempla-tion and geometric sophistication. He is interested in how movement, emotion, de-sire, expectation, and the natural rhythms of life can be embellished and romanticized and ultimately translated into visual form. The work seeks a state of alignment and vitality; a space where dualities dissolve. There is no strict division between black and white, good and bad, light and dark, there is simply existence.
It is an inquiry into harmony rather than conflict. Though composed of different elements, beings, and connections, everything is perceived as part of a greater whole, like one self-contained world, designed from within.
The residency coincided with a period of personal transition, and that is reflected in the work. It traces a growing understanding of love, including self-love and the navigation of boundaries, limitations, and personal movement. It marks a phase of greater assertiveness, a pushing forward, all of which is channeled into the paintings.
