Since the late 1960s, Ron Gorchov has treated painting as an object, creating his signature saddle-shaped canvases and combining biomorphic forms with intuitive color and line. His work blurs painting and sculpture, often drawing meaning from mythological or biblical titles, such as Callisto, the nymph transformed into a bear and placed among the stars. Despite their simplicity, his powerful paintings are in major collections including the Met, MoMA, Whitney, Guggenheim, and Detroit Institute of Art.
