The painting entitled Last Shuttle Home is a memory, a symbol of his love story. Paintings that represent memories are often characterized by a tangible object in Johnson’s work, like a book or a music cover which in his daily life brings back this memory. In Last Shuttle Home, the artist alludes to a decisive moment in the artist’s relationship with his girlfriend. After high school his girlfriend had the opportunity to study in the USA but she decided to stay in Nigeria as a proof of love. In Americanah, the book she is reading, the protagonist is confronted with a similar choice except that in the book the person decides to leave. There is a correlation between the book and the painting, a sort of story in a story.
