Last year, the work of the American artist Hank Willis Thomas was part of an exhibition in which Bozar celebrated a retrospective but profoundly relevant Summer of Photography
“Resist!” commemorated the global revolutionary spirit that is best-known for the way it was manifested in Paris in May 68. It combined this with a series of contemporary rebellious works, such as the images by Hank Willis Thomas, which like a sledgehammer blow combined the aesthetics of sports advertisements with the past and present of the African American population. In “Donnez Votre Main”, he focuses on the horrific colonial history of Belgium and Congo.
