George Rickey’s sculptures draw in space. In his mature works, the line or blade is both the writing implement and the only thing left behind once the “surface” has been drawn on. In much the same way ancient peoples used charcoal to arrest the movement of prehistoric animals on cave walls, Rickey used simple forms to show, but not arrest, the motion of the natural world. This catalogue presents a selection of works that were part of the exhibition George Rickey: Drawing in Space at MARUANI MERCIER, Brussels.
