Æmen Ededéen United States, b. 1979
76 x 66 in
The six books referenced in this work all contained repeated images of doubles/twins, and of skin, giving Ededéen the title “Under the Skin.” Here, the surface of the work appears charged with the presence of a living body, as two luminous outlines emerge on both sides of the composition. Repeating an image of his early work from an old exhibition catalogue again and again, until “they are lost altogether in a kind of figure-ground reversal”, the painting considers the themes of personal renewal and change.
