Thin blue-black ink notations in upper left to Carlebach Dec 1959, 1 wooden set 1946, 1 Steiner set, six metal pieces (1947) for models indicate that the drawing was first made in 1946, in wood, and samples in metal in California. The mixture of English and French notations, metric dimensions penciled in, and Man Ray's Paris studio address in red ink indicate it was revised for later use in 1953 and 1959. On verso is a larger scale pencil drawing of how 4 Knight pieces were to be produced from one circular piece of material, instead of 6, as shown on the recto drawing.
