Kwesi Botchway’s ‘Flower Boy’ series depicts a male figure with a rich dark skin toned dressed in high street-fashion attire, the (‘Off-White’ socks by Virgil Abloh and stylish Nike shoes with a purple sole). Consisting of three scenes set against a dark red background, the Flower Boy is captured in three various daily scenes that portray the subject’s confidence and poise. Each moment captured in the painting invites viewers to explore the complexities of the Flower Boy’s character and the world he inhabits.

With his distinct angular brushtrokes, Ghanaian artist Kwesi Botchway emphasises black skin with purple hues, a colour linked to royalty, grandeur, mystery, magic, seduction, and wisdom, wherein he highlights the idea of beauty in relation to the Black experience. Last year, we facilitated the placement of Botchway’s works in collections including the Arsenal Art Center, Brooklyn Museum of Art, Institute of Contemporary Art, High Fashion Foundation, The Israel Museum, and the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne.
