My Secret Garden: Arne Quinze
We are thrilled to welcome Arne QUINZE, the first Belgian artist our gallery will represent.
QUINZE has been creating for the last 20 years and is famous for his massive outdoor sculptures that transform entire neighbourhoods and cities. A preview will be presented at BRAFA Art Fair 2018, while his first solo show, My Secret Garden, with us will start on March 31 in our Knokke gallery with an entire new body of work.
Arne QUINZE was born in 1971 in Belgium. In the eighties he began working as a graffiti artist but he never finished an official art education. He lives and works in Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium and Los Angeles, US.
QUINZE creates large and small sculptures, drawings, paintings, and large-scale installations. Smaller works, sketches, and drawings are the basis and research for his large installations. Recurring fundamentals in his oeuvre are the use of wood and metal as well as electrical colors in fluorescent paint.
His works often pick social interaction, communication, and urbanism as their central themes. What drives QUINZE is the belief in the possible realization of an idealistic society where all individuals communicate and interact.
QUINZE's work has been exhibited internationally, including museums such as the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the MARTa Herford Museum(Frank Gehry galleries) in Herford, the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humblebæk, the Musée des Beaux Arts in Rouen, the Kunsthal in Rotterdam and the Musée d’Art Moderne et d’Art Contemporain in Nice.
Additionally, QUINZE has made installations for Human Rights Watch, The Flemish Parliament in Brussels, the Burning Man Festival in Nevada, Tomorrowland, Festival des Impressionistes in Rouen, The National History Museum in Shanghai and Georgetown in Washington D.C., amongst others.
My Secret Garden opens on 31 March and runs until 14 May 2018 at MARUANI MERCIER, Kustlaan 90, Knokke.
